Deckbuilding – All Golems go to Heaven

human statue under clear sky

Hey Commander people! There’s something about making tokens in Magic that’s just so satisfying. Making an army of somethings is great fun, especially when those armies are of an obscure type. Golems, anyone? But why stop there. When a golem dies, does it become a spirit? In this deck, that’s the plan!

White and green decks tend to make tokens or put counters on things, and we’re doing both. Our partner Commanders, Ich-Tekik, Salvage Splicer and Alharu, Solemn Ritualist both love tokens and counters, and if I owned a Doubling Season it’d be in there. Since there aren’t tons of fantastic golem or spirit token generators, I’ve plumped it up with some good old goodstuff. Take a look!

There are a number of golem-makers and golem creatures that I’m not bothering with. Stuff like Titan Forge. That might get another look, but I’d rather focus on the golem makers that fire on ETB. Like Commander Ich-Tekik, Salvage Splicer. The best engine is the one in the Command Zone. We can help that trigger out with Anointed Procession, Parallel Lives, Panharmonicon, and Strionic Resonator. We can blink with Conjurer’s Closet and Eerie Interlude, and reanimate with Cauldron of Souls and Faith’s Reward.

Because we’re into spirits too, Alharu, Solemn Ritualist is joined by Field of Souls, Requiem Angel and Spirit Bonds. We’ve got plenty of populate, like with Song of the Worldsoul, and proliferate, like with Contagion Engine. Even our removal makes tokens and puts counters on things. Many of our artifacts, including our mana rocks, sacrifice themselves for Ich-Tekik triggers. We’ve got fun stuff like Phyrexian Splicer, Witch’s Oven and Death’s Presence, and tons more.

Like with many of my go-wide/token/counter decks, it runs the risk of being too much to keep track of, but that’s a good problem to have. I can always trim some of the extra frills for whatever new Selesnya goodstuff comes down the pipe. Despite the fact that they put up board presence like crazy, these decks also seem to fly under the radar, and seldom make people angry. I’m expecting to have a great time with this one. Thanks for reading! Your life matters. Black Lives Matter!
