72hr International Film Race Finalist!

Hey there movie people! Have you heard of the Film Races? Film-making contests that take place over a very short period of time, requiring specific elements, and pushing filmmakers to their limits?

Well, we’re a Finalist in the 72hr International Horror Film Race 2024!

This is our 3rd Finals appearance in 3 tries for the 72hr Horror, our 5th Finals in 10 tries across all three International Film Races, and our 3rd Finals appearance in the last 4 International Film Races, with our lone exclusion placing 12th.

We also placed 2nd in a similar film competition in nearby Abbotsford.

Not bad for a tiny little group of filmmakers!

One of the things we have to do as finalists is create a synopsis for our film, so here it is:

The Something

A 72hr Horror Film by Barigord Studios

Written by Andrew Wade and Josh Hallem

Directed by Josh Hallem

Featuring Kate Besworth, David C. Jones, Nicola Whitney-Griffiths, Andrew Wade & Josh Hallem

19 min. Comedy-Horror, Mockumentary

Synopsis:

A celebrated but eccentric film director seeks to embark on his most ambitious project yet, a horror epic known as The Something. The story of the film is told in the form of a documentary, with major focus on interviews from four prominent members of the production.

The four production members – the film’s lead actor, the ‘creature performer,’ the Cryptozoology professor, and an old university acquaintance of the director – took on the film, each with their own goal in mind.

The lead actor wants to show off his range, the creature performer wants a deep artistic experience, the professor wants to summon a demon and sell a book about it, and the university friend is going to have the Hollywood experience he never knew he always dreamed of.

Once production gets started, things are even stranger than expected. The director’s eccentricity reaches new heights, and very little filming seems to be happening.

As well, the production is beset with unexplained events, ranging from items moving by themselves, to unexplained changes in the script, to a cast member seemingly possessed.

Each of the four interviewees reveals they have contributed $250,000 to the project, and despite all the strangeness, were happy with the film’s progress to this point. Each is also convinced they are the film’s only investor.

A large scale ‘paranormal’ incident on set leaves everyone scrambling to sort out what’s real, but before they get their bearings…

…The director disappears, with all the footage, and whatever’s left of their investments.

With some time to think, each of the four production members has formed an opinion about what happened, and what should happen next. Each still has their goal in mind, however, and are looking ahead to their next opportunity to seek clout.

The film will premiere in Marietta, Georgia on May 16th at the historic Strand Theatre, and could even win further awards!
