This is an occasional look of what’s happening in the world of Barigord arts, often published on the weekend! While we’re probably best known for making films, we dabble in all sorts of other art forms. Plus we love to share and connect! Leave a comment or a link so we can see your artwork too!

Hey there film lovers! We have wrapped on the 100hr International Film Race 2023.

Yesterday we received confirmation that our film was submitted successfully, on time, meeting all criteria, and supported by the necessary paperwork. Yay, paperwork. It’s pretty minimal, and even though it can be stressful, is a really good for building good habits for filming.

I’m really happy with our film, even though it could have used another 1-6 hours of editing. We got everything in that we needed to tell the story, and we’ll probably cut it down before we ultimately release it to the public. It’s a bit long, and I chose a super low-hanging fruit for transitions to get the job done. So what. Were we expecting perfection?

And now we wait. It’s not clear when we’ll find out if we’re finalists, but hopefully it’s soon. If we’re not finalists, we can release the film.

I think we did really well on the technical side. No blurry shots, minimal weird colour imbalances, and very, very good sound.

Here’s Andrew in chef gear. You’ll have to wait to see the movie to find out more!

The Rode microphone we used, seen in the shot above, The Videomic Pro, was the surprise hero of the race. It was about as simple and user-friendly as it could have been. I mounted it to the camera, connected it, and forgot about it. The record quality was simply amazing.

There’s me, hoping my costume makes me look like a dishwasher. The person kind.

All of our equipment – camera, lights, green screen stuff – functioned perfectly. Our remote camera trigger, kind of hidden in my hand in the shot above, was another MVP. We had a very small cast and crew, and there were a few shots where I was the only one there.

I used the remote trigger to shoot a few scenes of just me, some inserts, and a pretty cool stop-motion sequence, which I couldn’t resist trying. It also incorporated green screen, and me learning a new skill on the fly mid-race.

In addition to Andrew and myself, we had Charlene Happy in to do some makeup (picture above) and to voice a character. Andrew looks lovely!

We also had Babak Karaee helping out with camera for a bit. Babak was our Executive Producer for the film, and we couldn’t have done it without him. The picture is from the summer, and has all four of us who worked on the film in it. Yay us!

As a final recap, our required elements were:

Theme – Madness

Action – Coughing

Prop – A Doll

We built around the theme from the ground up, but also around the cast we knew we had. It was just Andrew and I, so that was a big consideration in what we made and how we made it.

You’ll see.

Conclusion

Please feel free to ask questions about any of this film contest stuff. This was our 5th of the year, and 11 overall in 3.5 years, and we can provide a lot of insight into the process.
